Today is the Utah vs. BYU game. Tye and I are both University of Utah Alumni, so will be cheering for Utah to win. We have been to many of these rivalry games over the years at both Rice Eccles Stadium and LaVelle Edwards Stadium. We have sat through blizzards just to see a game end with only one field goal scored. Tye wrote an article about this particular experience back in 2004: http://dailyutahchronicle.com/sports/1.361357. One thing is for sure: no matter who is favored or what the records are, this game is always special.
This year we were not able to make it to Utah for the game so will be watching the game from a sports bar here in Arizona. Everything is in Utah's favor to win this year. They are undefeated and the game is at home, but as we all know, nothing would make the Cougars happier than spoiling the Utes' dreams of a second BCS bowl game. (Memory escapes me, how many BCS bowl games has BYU played in? Oh yeah, I just remembered - NONE!)
If you are a BYU fan you don't have to hate the Utes when they win. After all most of us have ties to both schools. Here is a link to an article Tye wrote on this subject in 2003: http://dailyutahchronicle.com/sports/1.359223.
Go Utes!

It is true the Utes are the better team this year but hopefully the Cougs can give them a good fight! I like that article Tye wrote about not hating BYU. I don't have any hate towards the U but I do get pretty annoyed by many of their fans that go out of their way to hate BYU.
Yes, we'll be loyally cheering for the Cougars but know the Utes are having a great year. It's good for the whole conference to have a team get in the BCS system. No, BYU hasn't played a BCS game, but if we are throwing around achievements, don't forget the Y has a national championship. Have fun tonight, and don't gloat too hard over us tomorrow!
Sorry, that was Bobbi, my computer is signed in as Heidi and I didn't know it!
Mom - just for the sake of argument (this definitely shouldn't be taken the wrong way) but the debater inside of me is calling -
1) that so called national championship is one of the most disputed national championships ever crowned - BYU did not beat a single ranked team that year and did not play in a national championship game - they beat a Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl that had 4 losses
2) 1984 was, well, 1984 and that was a long, long time ago
3) I would put the 2004 Utah team or the 2008 Utah team up against the 1984 BYU team any day
So, thanks for posting Tye's articles. I read them on Saturday and then didn't have time to comment (what with that insane game in the afternoon and my heart racing like crazy when it seemed like there was some hope...alas, no hope--too many dumb mistakes from the blue and a solid red team to keep doing things right) Anyway, they were a good read then and now :)
Disputed or not, the Title was ours and we claim it. I'd be willing to see Johnson against Robbie Bosco--not Alex Smith, though! And your articles were fine reading once again.
Hahahaha, I love that this post is still up. I thought you were going to take it down so that we could end the banter. "Let's not bicker and argue about who killed whom" (Monty Python for those who aren't familiar). After all, the game was a long time ago. Time to move on and post pictures of our Thanksgiving weekend!
